How to Speed Up Browsing Folders?

Many a times you must have experienced delay in opening up of My Computer section of your computer - why does this happens and why does computer takes so much time to display our drives?

The answer to this can be found out when you open the My Computer section. Whenever the icon is clicked, a torch appears searching for hard drives. Here lies the answer, Windows XP automatically searches for the network files and printers whenever the windows explorer is opened. This searching takes time in opening of the My Computer section.

Can this be avoided? Yes, it can be done.

1. Open My Computer
2. Click the Tools menu
3. Select the Folder Options option
4. Select the View tab
5. Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers checkbox
6. Click Apply button
7. Click OK
8. Reboot your computer system

Now you can notice significant increase of speed in opening of My Computer section.
